A first tour

Ten minutes through the PDM, with yarn dev or your own installation.

  1. Make a part. The plus over the document list, then Part, a name, and a number if you have one (the PDM makes one up otherwise). It starts as an empty draft on the branch main.
  2. Model it. Edit opens the empty part in Buerligons. Sketch and extrude something, save with ⌘S (Ctrl S), go back. A part-derive job runs; when it's done, Overview shows the picture, the volume, the size and the centre of gravity, and Expressions lists the model's expressions.
  3. Make a version. Create version, optionally with a name and a comment. That's v1, and it doesn't change again.
  4. Release it. In History, open v1's menu and Release. It becomes revision A.
  5. Build an assembly. Make an assembly document and Edit it. In Buerligons, the document menu has Insert from PDM: pick your part. Save with ⌘S (Ctrl S), go back, and Create version.
  6. Change the part. Edit the part, change something, save, go back. Make v2 and release it as B. The assembly's Structure tab now says an update is available. Update references takes it.
  7. Look around. Used by on the part lists the assembly. History has a timeline and a graph. Branch from here on a version starts a branch.

Have a model from somewhere else? Upload takes an OFB or STEP file into the draft, and the same job runs. That's the exception: the PDM is made for parts that are made in it.
